Hi Shruti, I am a born mahuri. Mahuri caste is very backward while it comes to the matters of marriage and very narrow-minded. Why can't we guys learn from many good people from outside BIMARU states where in most castes no dowry is involved in their marriages. That concept itself is alien to them. And in fact wedding expenses are also shared equally among both the parties. 'rishta leke jana' is also done by boys side and not girls side like it is in mahuri. Because boy's parents are asking the girl's parents for 'daan' of their 'kanya'. One needs to be raised intelligent to understand this and there is a dearth of such people. I am very happy that I married a non mahuri so at least my future generation will think and act sanely and help eradicate dowry system. I highly appreciate this blog. Kudos to you Shruti! May your posts be an eyeopener for my doomed people
